The Bass Family, BOSTON
Chris & Brandy Bass
In July, 2008, NETS sent Rev. Chris Bass (Ph.D., The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary) and his wife, Brandi, to Boston, Massachusetts to begin the process of planting a new gospel-driven church.
The International Mission Board and other missions agencies define an "unreached people group" as "a people group in which the number of evangelical Christians totals less than 2% of the population." According to one very thorough study, only 2.1% of the people living in Greater Boston attend evangelical churches.
Another reason the Basses are excited to plant a church in the Boston area is because of the significant amount of college students in the area, which therefore provides an opportunity to reach the next generation. Wikipedia, the largest Internet encyclopedia, describes the Greater Boston area as the "Athens of America," having over 100 colleges and universities and more than 250,000 college students.
Future site for Redeemer Fellowship ChurchWatertown is a strategic location, with 600,000 people living within a 5 mile radius. And, it is right in the heart of major colleges in the area. Here are some distances to major universities from the new building:
Redeemer Fellowship Church (RFC) is now in the early stages of start-up, with at least 20 people interested so far. RFC hopes to open it's doors for public services in September, 2009. Chris and Brandi's vision is not only to start this new work, but to become the epicenter of a church planting movement in Boston.
Pray for Chris & Brandi as they begin this church plant in Boston, for ministry partners to come and join them, for the college students & teachers in the surrounding area to be receptive to hearing the gospel, for financial needs, and long term - for a thriving college ministry with some of our nation's future leaders, professors, politicians, doctors, parents, and lord-willing, pastors within it.
You can support Chris & Brandi Bass by giving online at NETS website or by giving to the Missions First offering at Adaton. 5% of that offering goes to support the Basses & Redeemer Fellowship Church in Watertown, Mass.
