The Rule of Christ

Jesus' first sermon went like this: "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."  Matthew 4:17.

Everything you must know about God is in that sermon.  "Repent" - turn, change your ways.  You are living a life that offends God and angers him.  Plus, there is no benefit in it for you.  You should want to change your ways because you will only run your life in the ditch by continuing down this path.

"The kingdom of heaven is near."  The rule of God on your life is at hand.  This is good news for when God rules you, he does a far better job of managing your life than you will.  We don't know how to live.  I get asked often as a pastor: Yes, I know that's where I want to go with my life, but how do I get there?

When you try to save your life, you lose it, but when God masters you, your life is saved. You will prosper under God's rule.  And God's rule over you will not be one ounce more severe than is necessary to bring you good.  With Christ at the helm, the rule of your life goes like this: "Come to me, all you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."  Matthew 11:28-30.
